Lymphatic massages Ostrava — when they help and how they work

Lymphatic massages Ostrava are among the techniques that help the body get rid of excess fluid, support natural detoxification, and speed up healing after injuries or surgeries. I offer them at my studio in Moravská Ostrava, Přívoz, and in recent years interest in them has grown especially among women after childbirth, athletes, and people struggling with chronic swelling of the lower limbs.

What is a lymphatic massage

Lymphatic massage, professionally known as manual lymphatic drainage, is a gentle manual technique that works with the superficial lymphatic vessel network. The strokes are slow, rhythmic, and always directed toward the nearest lymph nodes. The goal is to get the lymph flowing, support its drainage, and thereby speed up the removal of excess fluid and metabolic waste from the body.

Unlike a classic massage, I don’t use strong pressure or muscle kneading. The movement is very gentle and superficial, yet very effective. This is because lymph moves just beneath the skin.

When lymphatic massages Ostrava help the most

I recommend manual lymphatic drainage especially in these situations:

After surgery and injuries

Post-surgical swelling is common after procedures in the abdominal, breast, or joint areas, or after vascular interventions. Lymphatic massage helps speed up the drainage of fluid from the affected area, reduce pain, and limit the formation of adhesions. I always recommend first consulting with the treating physician about the suitability of the massage and its timing.

During pregnancy and after childbirth

Leg swelling during pregnancy troubles a large number of women, especially in the last trimester. A gentle, pressure-free lymphatic massage relieves the feeling of heavy legs, reduces ankle swelling, and supports venous return. After childbirth, it helps the body return to its previous balance more quickly and supports natural recovery.

For chronic swelling and cellulite

If a client is troubled by persistent swelling of the lower limbs, lymphedema, or visible cellulite, manual lymphatic drainage is among the most effective available techniques. Results are often visible after just a few sessions, but the full effect comes with a series of six to ten massages.

For athletes after intense exertion

After tough training or a race, metabolic waste products accumulate in the muscles. Lymphatic massage helps flush them out faster, shortens recovery time, and reduces the risk of injury. It is especially suitable for endurance athletes, triathletes, runners, and cyclists.

How a lymphatic massage works at my studio in Ostrava

A session usually lasts 90 minutes. The first visit begins with a short initial conversation, where I ask about your health condition, any contraindications, and the goal of the massage. I work with you lying on a massage table, and the client remains covered with a towel except for the part currently being massaged.

I proceed systematically from the cervical lymph nodes, through the armpit area, chest and abdomen, all the way to the groin, knees, and ankles. The strokes are very gentle, and clients often don’t even perceive it as a massage in the classic sense. Many people even fall asleep during the session.

How often to come and how many massages are usually enough

It depends on the goal and type of issue:

  • Acute post-surgical swelling: two to three sessions per week for two to three weeks
  • Chronic swelling or lymphedema: once a week for six to ten weeks, then maintenance sessions once a month
  • Detoxification and prevention: one session every four to six weeks
  • After childbirth: I recommend four to six sessions spaced one to two weeks apart
  • Sports recovery: once a month during the preparation period, more intensively before and after a race

What to follow after a lymphatic massage

After the massage, I recommend following a few simple rules for maximum effect:

  • Drink plenty of clean water right after the massage and throughout the following day, at least two liters
  • Avoid alcohol and coffee for 24 hours
  • Choose a light walk instead of intense exercise
  • Avoid the sauna and hot baths on the same day
  • Don’t burden your digestion with heavy meals

When not to undergo a lymphatic massage

Manual lymphatic drainage has its limitations. It is not recommended in cases of acute inflammation, high fever, recent thrombosis, untreated heart conditions, or certain cancers. If in doubt, I always discuss the suitability with the client and recommend consulting a doctor.

Price and session length

One lymphatic massage session lasts 90 minutes and is based on my current price list. After the first session, I can usually advise you on the most suitable plan and how many sessions in total I recommend. You can pay in cash, by card, QR code, via Revolut, Benefit Plus, Pluxee, Edenred, MůjUp, and Benefity.cz.
